Intent 
 

KS3 Students will be working towards AQA awards related to using ICT and to prepare them for Year 10 and 11 ICT course. Focus is on the development of effective communication skills and will also encourage learners to demonstrate their skills in using ICT systems. 

KS4 Students work towards an ICT Functional Skills assessment.  

This ICT qualification develops transferable skills which will be useful in work and life, learners can also progress on to qualifications in employability, money management or vocational areas 
 

Impact

Using a variety of learning resources and catering for different learning styles to increase knowledge and build skills and understanding of the use of ICT systems at home and in the workplace. 
 

Implementation

The aim is to provide students with knowledge and skills to support the AQA awards and functional skills assessment. 

Subject Overview  

 

In ICT we want learners to develop practical, transferable skills in order to work confidently, effectively and independently in life. 

We provide the  learners with the ICT skills to help them gain the most from life, learning and work.  

The main objectives are to help learners to: 

  • Gain skills when using ICT systems, finding and selecting information, developing, and presenting and communicating information 

  • Apply their knowledge and understanding to everyday life  

  • Engage competently and confidently with others 

  • Solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations 

  • Develop personally and professionally as positive citizens who can actively contribute to society. 

  • In KS4 students’ study for a ICT Functional Skills qualification which includes 

  • Using emails and folders  

  • Finding information from the internet  

  • Developing spreadsheet data on Excel  

  • Developing a Word document or PowerPoint presentation 

  • Answering questions on general ICT knowledge 

  • This qualification develops transferable skills which will be useful in work and life. 

  • learners can also progress on to qualifications in employability, money management or vocational areas.
