Outdoor Education Update

Whatever the Weather

The woodland changes so much throughout the seasons and during different weather conditions. Taking part in sessions during poor weather builds resilience and offers a completely different set of sensory experiences.

This week we’ve definitely seen the weather start to turn. Our students have enjoyed exploring our woodland site during the rain and the sounds and sights the rain creates.

Unless there are thunderstorms or high winds our outdoor sessions take place year round, whatever the weather. One of the first things we do in the morning is set up a kit shelter to store equipment under if the weather changes for the worse. We’ve also got several sets of waterproof trousers and coats for students to borrow when the weather is poor. Whilst they’re not the most glamorous items of clothing our students are, very slowly, starting to realise that just sometimes choosing function over fashion is worthwhile.
